Contractor, who was born and raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai prior to turning 7years old, traveled all over across the globe and lived through many cultures as a child. She attended boarding school in London between the ages of seven and nine years old, then her family relocated to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a brilliant pupil in Toronto and was trained as the classical ballet dancer. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school, where she not only danced but also studied theatre. Contractor began acting at age 16, following nearly 10 years of dancing. After graduating high school, she accepted a full scholarship to Toronto's University of Toronto, where she earned a master's degree in theatre and a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor, who had been a student for a year and auditioned at an open call for Pericles which was held at the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadain Canada] and was selected for the role. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian reviewers praised her performance during 92 performances of Pericles. The actor was invited to take part in the conservatory course, in which a select eight men as well as four women can be accepted for a 20-week crash course on the classical stage that she gladly accepted.
